Americans for Dr. Rice

August 5th, 2006

This morning I attended the dedication of this billboard, urging Dr. Condolezza Rice to run for President in 2008.

It’s located in McGregor, Texas on the highway between Waco and Crawford. The President and VIPs often pass this way.

The billboard was put up by Americans For Dr. Rice, a ‘527′ independant political orgainization.
At 10:30 in the morning it was already getting pretty hot!

The small crowd of ‘Condistas’ were treated to a highly motivational speech by Jessie Jane Duff, the national director. Jessie is a retired Marine Corps officer. She is a very engaging speaker.

The dedication was scheduled for 10:30. Jessie showed up about 10:20 and immediately began, in the nicest possible way, herding the people around, positioning the attendees and the press.
She was chanting “We start on time! We start on time!” After spending the last ten year in software startups, where nothing ever starts on time this was very refreshing attitude to take.

The whole experience was a lot of fun. I’d like to learn more about Dr. Rice, but surely she is the most qualified person amoung the set of likely candidates from either party.

Jessie reminded us that President Eisenhower was drafted to run. Wouldn’t it be fun to have a President who had not spent her whole life running for President? I think so.

I put a few pictures into a Flickr Set. I also drove over to Crawford and took some pictures there.

  1. This post is included in Austinist’s best of the blogs for this week.

  2. My god, the disaster that is the Bush Doctrine isn’t enough for you people, now you want to draft Madame Supertanker? She’s really shining in this Mideast crisis, eh? She the Maytag repairman of the State dept – dutifully awaiting the call when diplomacy breaks out, but it never does, which is really OK with her. She’d much rather be in Herald Square buying $5K Ferragamos anyway.

Holy Joe Lieberman’s defeat was the beginning of the end for the Fear Party. Just wait until Novemeber and beyond. Right-wingers are embarking on generation or two in the winderness now. Oh well, at least you’re in Texas!

  3. Pat, thanks for your comment.

“Holy Joe Lieberman’s defeat was the beginning of the end for the Fear Party. Just wait until Novemeber and beyond. Right-wingers are embarking on generation or two in the winderness now.”

Maybe so, but the way I look at it is that in a blue state Democratic primary you can kiss President Bush and still get 48% of the Democrats to vote for you.

  4. The previous comments show how the left has to do name calling and insults when there aren’t any facts to substantiate their opinions of Dr. Rice.

How is calling her a Maytag repariman or childishly talking about her attire (as if jealous) clarify what this writer seems to think she is doing so poorly? Here are the facts, including EVERY peace accord that has failed by previous administrations (all taken from the http://www.4condi.com Web page:

As Condi returns to Washington, the UN, the European “Axis of Weasels,” former officials of past US administrations who failed to achieve a lasting Middle East peace and their mainstream media apologists are all anxious to point the finger of blame at the United States and specifically the Bush Administration. Never mind that the UN (and their UNIFIL observers), the Europeans (with growing Muslim minorities and continued dependence on Middle Eastern oil), and the so-called “moderate” Arab states stood by as Syria, Iran and Hezbollah turned Southern Lebanon into their beach head for terrorist attacks on Israel and intertwined themselves into the local population with a carrot-and-stick approach that was very effective. (“Let me pay to rent your basement and store Katyusha rockets, or I’ll kill you and your family.”)

By the way, for the Left, who always seems to like throwing around accusations of “war crimes,” using civilians to shield yourself is a war crime, but there have been virtually no media voices (with the exception of Fox’s Fred Barnes) pointing this out. The current conflict did not erupt after just the kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers. The kidnappings, bombings, murders, and cross-border attacks from South Lebanon have been going on for years. Where were these indignant legions in the past? Where were the calls for an “immediate ceasefire” before this current escalation? (Oh, we forgot, the victims were Jews, so no big deal, right?)

Here’s a partial list of Arab-Israeli Peace Agreements.
(Have any of them led to a lasting peace?)

    1949 Armistice Agreements

    Camp David Accords (1978)

    Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty (1979)

    Madrid Conference of 1991

    Oslo Accords (1993)

    Israel-Jordan Treaty of Peace (1994)

    Camp David 2000 Summit

I say “Hats off” to Americans for Dr. Rice. They know their lady, their candidate of choice, and the folks who think Condi created the mess in the Middle East obviously drink too much of their own Kool-Aid.

What does fun have to do with it?

What a bizarre thing to say.

Diplomacy is a two way street. You don’t just talk to one side and then expect results. The idea that Olmert is ready to accept this new UN US/French propsal is laughable. I guess Condi hasn’t heard – Nasrallah ain’t playin’ along with this game, and Hizbillah isn;t budging an inch. In fact, he’s handing the IDF their a** rihgt in case you haven;lt been watching. The kill ratio is 3 to 1 right now, not something a fully-armed nuclear power wants to brag about. Israel knows they overplayed their hand, likely incited on by Ms. Supertanker herself, and they need some quick face-saving before they’re in over their knees. And even on that Condi cannot deliver.

Truth is, Condi, like her boss, is the epitome of the Peter Principle. She’s highly intelligent, well-spoken, has apparently been trained in all the proper social graces, and plays a mean 88-key to boot. But none of her previous experience qualifies her for negotiator-in-chief, something she hasn’t quite gotten the hang of since her appointment. The results of her tenure as NSA are writ large all over “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the US” memo, and her statement, “I don’t think anyone could have anticipated people flying airplanes into buildings.”

Compare how the British dealt with this terror plot (good old-fashioned law enforcement, human intel, and no torture) and how they couched their announcement with Bush and Shooter’s extra-legal anti-terror methods and their cynical exploitation of it for political points. Just despicable.

It is time to remove this dangerous band of maniacs from power. The sooner we do, the safer we will all be from all the bogeymen of the world.

  7. I must honestly say that I have never, in all my existence, seen another human being who lies both so damn poorly and as outrageously often as Madame Supertanker.

She truly personifies the phrase “everything she says is a lie including “and and “the”. But my favorite Condi quote ever, “The Lord Jesus Christ is going to come on time.” She added: “If we just wait” to the victims of Katrina. My God can that woman carry water!
